2000 Blue Slantback (1 of 39):

Scroll Down for More Pictures!

This is a true factory Slantback. 1 of 39 made in the world. The only one made in blue. This Slantback was bought new in 2002, although it had 7800 miles on it when I purchased it since AM General used it as a demo vehicle for a few months. It was also their R&D truck for a while and has various upgrades from the factory that aren't found in any other Hummer. Most of the factory upgrades were little things that most don't notice, it was nothing major. On the note of it being a 2000, the Slantbacks weren't released to the public for purchase until 2002.

On the outside you will find the D-Ring brushguard which is a must have. The blue lights on the brushguard and the KC HID lighting are especially useful. You'll notice fender flares all around -- They really keep the mud and crap off of the Hummer. The rocker panels were upgraded to the steel version. Adds a bit of weight, but is well worth it when offroading. On the roof of the Hummer, you'll see (3) antennas. One is for VHF, the other two are for UHF bands. Also between the antennas are the GPS navigation antenna and the Sirius Satellite Radio antenna.

On the inside, there's quite a few goodies. From the drivers seat you'll see luxurious wood trim from Madera Concepts. The MOMO steering wheel is to match. Then you fill find a video screen by the HVAC controls. This video screen controls several functions. You can watch DVD movies, listen to a 10Gb MP3 Player, normal AM/FM, and the new Sirius Satellite Radio service (100 Digital Channels of commercial free music/news/comedy/etc). In addition, it also lets you watch broadcast television, and see where your car is on the road with GPS Navigation. The GPS system shows you turn by turn directions while you drive. Even more wild, the entire Kenwood system is touchscreen. No remote controls to fiddle with, just press the screen with your finger. In the center console the siren and switch are for my volunteer firefighting activities. All of the speakers were also changed out, but you would never know it since we kept the standard Monsoon grills. There is a center channel added to the Monsoon console right between the center speakers. It helps out with quality a lot!

Under each passenger seat is where the audio brains are stored. The surround processors, crossovers, and other items are on the passenger side. Each item is on its own rack -- Under the seat you turn a screw real quick and a platform slides out to allow servicing the components or changing settings. It is very simple to do. On the drivers side rear seat houses the MP3 Player and cartridge, and the DVD-based GPS Navigator system. The reason for both of them on the drivers seat is for accessibility.

The trunk area is my favorite. I had a TruckVault to put in, but it left about 6 inches of room total for both sides. With this extra room, the amps for all the components, subs, and rear components were housed on a linear actuator. This means that the amps are side by side and can lift up and down on a motor. It is setup so when you open the trunk, the amp rack slowly raises. There is an override switch incase you need to store something in the trunk so that the amp rack won't lift up. It is truly wild to watch. The entire top of the truckvault is carpeted flush with the fenderwells giving it an exceptionally clean and flush feel across the top. The sub box is in front of it, with the HUMMER logo embossed into it. The box is bolted to the Truckvault and floor, and the Truckvault is bolted down as well.

This is the SECOND customization job on this Hummer. The first was completed in Summer 2002. Sadly, at Hummer Homecoming 2002 in South Bend IN, the Hummer was broken into and all the goodies were stolen from it. Quite a bit of interior panels had to be replaced, and all the marker lights were broken and replaced as well. The total insurance claim came to $55,000(!!). I'm somewhat glad that the breakin happened as the new install is so much better than the first. I wasn't quite pleased with the first install. Still, it was a pain in the butt having the Hummer in the shop for another month getting work done. For pictures of the Hummer the day of the breakin, click here.
