Maintenance Log for Hummers:

This is here for my records, as well as for others to see what it's like to maintain a Hummer, and any costs involved. Usually I try to do warranty work myself even if it involves the dealer shipping the parts to me since they are an hour away. It's fun, and the AM General service manual really helps out.

2000 Yellow Wagon #1 (Daily Driver):

  • Delivery (6 miles) - On delivery, the Hummer had a chafed wire causing the engine to stall. Electrical tape fixed this problem.

  • Delivery (9 miles) - On delivery, the Hummer had an engine bolt loose causing windshield wipers to randomly turn on, and for gauges to spike even while in park. Took a few dealer visits to find this very strange problem.

  • 3,000 mi - No problems.
  • 5,894 mi - Hummers engine would just shut down if you switched fuel tanks. Turned out to be a bad fuel tank selector valve. ($300, covered under warranty)
